Tim's Visit to Bangor by Annie Davidson
Tim was up early and off to school. He had his own personal driver for the day, long time family friend Margaret McCabe. Margaret and her daughter Elizabeth had set it up for Tim to visit South Walnut School on Monday the last day of school. When he arrived at the school they were all in assembly. The Principal interrupted the program to introduce Tim. There is nothing more impressive than a Marine in full dress blues. The parents and teachers stood and applauded; and immediately the students jumped up from their seats on the floor to join with a long and resounding greeting. Among the adults present there were not many dry eyes. Tim spoke briefly and answered a few questions. He returned later in the morning to visit Mrs. Hoch's 4th Grade. This is the Class that adopted him and sent him packages, letters and pictures. The students asked some very thoughtful and pointed questions. One of the most touching things was during his visit to the school the children would come up to him and shake his hand and say thank-you. |
