About Trailspotters of Michigan
Our origins
In the summer of 2007, current President and CEO Thomas Funke and his wife were eating lunch at the Tahquamenon Falls Brewery at Tahquamenon Falls State Park. During thier meal, a young man pulled up a chair and indicate that his wife, his infant child, and himself walked from Lower Falls to Upper Falls thinking there was a shuttle ride back. He asked Tom for a ride, and Funke obliged. As they were leaving, another gentleman ran up and said "I heard you are going back to Lower Falls, I'll give you $10 for a ride".
With that, the idea of starting the Tahqua Trekker was born.
Expanding the Empire
There are many trails and rivers in Michigan that are underutilized because water and trail users don't want to double back, they don't want to do a two car drop, and/or don't have the time to facilitate thier one way travel. In 2009, TRAILSPOTTERS OF MICHIGAN was incorporated to build a network of independently owned shuttle services. Trailspotters is the parent company and has created a system that takes care of nearly all the administrative aspects of running a shuttle service while the owner operator can concentrate on running the service.
